This Privacy Policy explains how the African Food Systems Forum (AFSF) collects, uses, and protects personal information through the AFSF Thematic Platforms · Community of Practice (“the Platform”), including its public pages and member dashboard.

When you submit a join application, we collect organisation details and representative contact information (name, email, phone, country, role). Once an account is created, we store your profile details, platform memberships, and activity such as resources or events you publish. We also collect basic technical data — pages visited, browser/device type, and approximate location — to keep the Platform secure and improve it.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use this information to review membership applications, operate your account, send you relevant notifications (new events, resources, and platform activity), and to understand how the Platform is used so we can improve it. We do not sell your personal information.

4. Who Can See Your Information

Your name, organisation, and role are visible to other members of your thematic platform(s) and to AFSF administrators. Content you mark as public (such as published resources or events) is visible to site visitors. We do not share your personal contact details with third parties outside AFSF except where required by law.

5. Data Retention

We retain account and application data for as long as your organisation participates in a thematic platform, and for a reasonable period after in case membership is renewed. You can request deletion of your account data by contacting us.

6. Security

We use industry-standard measures — including encrypted connections and access controls — to protect your information. No system is completely secure, and we encourage you to use a strong, unique password.

7. Your Rights

You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data, or ask us to stop sending notification emails, by contacting info@afs-forum.org.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy as the Platform evolves. Material changes will be reflected by updating the date at the top of this page.
